Leiden University Medical Centre on move to greener environment

While it can be obvious that industry has to take responsibility for the planet and the environment in which it operates, this obligation applies to other non-industrial facilities too. Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) in the Netherlands is a good example of the steps that can be taken to improve the local surroundings and reduce any footprint.

The premises of this medical centre are situated in a densely populated urban area on the edge of the busy city centre of Leiden. Like every hospital, its emergency power generators are only switched on during a power cut of the normal electricity grid in order to ensure daily operations are not placed at risk.

These emergency power generators are tested on a regular basis to ensure that they will be operational when needed. LUMC has now ensured that the emissions from these test runs are as green as possible by installing Xeamos exhaust after-treatment systems.

For this project we developed and supplied custom-made Diesel Particle Filters (DPF) in a turnkey solution. Benefits include a reduction in particle matter (soot), an elimination of any diesel fumes caused by hydrocarbon compounds and comprehensive noise attenuation. This bespoke system was successfully installed on-site by ROCK, a technical company from Urk that XEAMOS has partnered with on a number of projects.
